gulp - cut back on sugary drinks and 'give up loving pop'

Engage, inform and educate young people, parents and carers about the health harms associated with drinking drinks and get them to GIVE UP LOVING POP!

While many people are aware of the negative impact that sugary drinks have on teeth, fewer are aware of the link between the over consumption of sugary drinks and weight gain and related disease such as type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Did you know that:

  • Drinking two cans of pop per day can increase your risk of type 2 diabetes by more than a quarter.
  • Drinking one can of sugary pop per day increases your risk of dying from heart disease by a third.
  • A major cause of tooth decay is sugary pop; as a result more than one in four 5 year olds experience toothache, fillings and tooth loss.
  • Drink one can of sugary pop a day? That could lead to over a stone (six kilos) in weight gain per year.
